At the end of December, I released a short story titled Method (loosely inspired by Concerns Over A.I. Provisions In SAG-AFTRA’s Deal With Hollywood Studios.) —
— as part of my initiative to release one short story a month based on something in the news or general zeitgeist.
I also developed a major update on how the stories here function:
Long story short, they are all officially connected! But I’m not using those connections as an excuse to cut storytelling corners. Even when characters return, there will be enough information for newcomers to digest their personalities as well as the plot (this ain’t the Marvel Cinematic Universe).
AND, you will always be able to refer to this table of contents (a.k.a. THE TIMELINE) to show you where each story lands in time and how they intersect:
It’s still under a bit of construction, but I hope to have it in a solid space by the start of February.
Now, it’s time to move on to the month(s) at hand! Here’s what I’ll be focused on in the coming weeks for a January story titled The Assistant and a February story titled Lunar Self.
That’s right — in a historic first, I know what my next TWO stories are.
THEME(s):
The Assistant: How A.I. Will Transform Law
Lunar Self: The Modern Space Race & The Social Ramifications Of Colonizing The Moon
REAL NEWS INSPIRATION:
The Assistant: AI won’t displace human judges, but will affect judiciary, Roberts says in annual report
Lunar Self: NASAs Recent Moon Lander Malfunction & The Odd Fact That They Were Bringing Human Remains ← talk about the perfect recipe for a story.
WHY?:
The Assistant: This is likely the most important space to stay up to date and critical of artificial intelligence. Will A.I. provide more positives than negatives? That’s the leading question of the upcoming story.
Lunar Self: Again, it’s rare you get such a perfect setup for a story. But it’s also important to remember that the moon isn’t a theme park (yet) and that many on earth still consider it sacred. Is this really the best time to bring human remains up there?
Wish me luck!
